In The News

One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to try and write every week. It’s good to know that it took all of 3 weeks before I broke that one…

I didn’t mention any of my New Years Resolutions this year. To be honest, I didn’t put in a lot of time to develop any. I made an easy goal of getting my current job contract extended and finding a new apartment. The push to make those things happen was based on the fact that I didn’t want to be jobless and homeless. It’s good to know that it took all of 3 weeks to get that one done.

Last weekend, I moved into a new place with some help from a couple of great friends. One to help me pack up, one to help me unload, one to help me do both, and one mom to feed us all. I’m grateful not just for their help, but their willingness to help. The greatest thing about asking for help is the, “stop being an idiot” tone that I get when I ask them if they are sure that they can make it. Within the past couple of years, I’ve said I’m much better written than spoken. However, I have a hard time putting into words the feeling that I get when someone generously offers their time to help me when I need it. And it might not even seem like that big of a deal. But when you think about all of the things that people don’t need to do for you, it makes those instances of sacrifice so much more meaningful. The willingness to give without the expectation of receiving should be a humbling experience to the person who is receiving that gift. “Should” is the critical word in that sentence. The people who don’t recognize that are also not called friends.

You know who’s not a friend? Ronaiah Tuiasosopo. He’s the guy that pretended to be Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend that apparently, not only fooled Manti Te’o, but several of Te’o’s friends and family. Tuiasosopo had an interview with Dr. Phil where he says he had developed romantic feelings for Te’o during this thing. When asked if it was romantic, Tuiasosopo said yes, and then, when asked if he was gay, Tuiasosopo said “Well, when you put it that way, yes.” What other way is there to put it, man? You were pretending to be a guy’s fake girlfriend and felt romantically involved with him. The weird part is when he catches himself saying that he’s gay, and then said “I am confused.”

A lot of weird stories came out this week. A former NFL player assaulted someone, which may not seem that weird. Except that the person he assaulted was his ex-boyfriend. And the fight started over soy sauce. A former NFL lineman got mad that the guy he was with poured soy sauce on top of rice. Kwame Harris, the former NFL player, stormed out of the place, came back in 7 minutes later, yelled at the guy, and threatened to not drop him off at the airport. After that, they go outside to get his stuff, and Harris accuses the guy of stealing his underwear. He then attempts to pull the guy’s pants down before he ends up beating him up and putting him in the hospital. It’s a weird day when you see a 6’7″, 240-pound black dude trying to pull down another grown man’s pants before slugging the shit outta him in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant….

Speaking of large people, apparently, a man died because he was boobied to death. The description of the individuals make this story much more awesome than it already sounds.

Male – 5’7″ – 175 lbs
Female – 5’6″ – 192 lbs

Awesome…

Anyways, I guess that’s what it’s like being a news anchor with a handful of terrible segues.

Thanks for reading
